The evolution of Packaging

An interesting article on the evolution of packaging and retailing by Ray Keiser.
From a packaging designers perspective the constraints of the printing process have always been part of designing a pack


and I would say thats more relevant now with 6 colour printing presses and special inks etc etc ....  a lot of brands are becoming very much the same as each other  - as designers follow trends rather than innovating.
Perhaps as our land fill sites become full of packaging waste and designers take on a more responsible role there will be a return to the basics of function and form.
